Dawn didn’t start out with the dream to do financial planning; she initially specialized as an estate administrator. After seeing countless individuals endure challenging circumstances and struggle to understand the what, why and how to deal with the finances, she knew there had to be a better way. After a client casually suggested it – financial planning became synonymous with Dawn. She has a passion to make a difference in our clients’ lives; her diverse and expansive expertise from estate to tax to financial planning makes Dawn the best to address complex situations and family dynamics that all play a role in your financial success.
Dawn joined the Angus Watt Advisory Group in 2011, bringing over 35 years of financial planning and related experience to our group, and is uniquely skilled in identifying any situation that may threaten your financial wellbeing. She continues to apply her passion for lifelong learning to ensure her knowledge remains current and relevant to your needs.
Dawn’s work has not only gleaned her respect from her family in the Angus Watt Advisory Group but also nationally and internationally. In 2018, Dawn was awarded the Donald J. Johnston Lifetime Achievement Award, the highest and most prestigious award granted for lifetime advancement of the CFP designation and overall impact for her contribution to the financial planning profession. And in 2017, she was the only recipient to receive the FP Canada Fellow in recognition of her advancement of CFP professional standards.
The passion to make a difference stretches into all aspects of Dawn’s life. She has dedicated countless hours to championing the work of financial planners and related professions.
She served on the Board of FP Canada™ (formerly Financial Planning Standards Council) for eight years, including as Chair from 2015 to 2017. She has served on the Executive of the Estate Planning Council of Edmonton and as the Branch Chair for the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) Edmonton. Dawn was a contributor to the Canadian Financial Planning Definitions, Standards and Competencies and was also involved with developing the Financial Planning Body of Knowledge. In recognition of her dedication as a mentor and the original instructor of the CFP courses, in 2019 the Business Career College established an annual scholarship in Dawn’s name.
In addition to her volunteer work in the financial industry, she is also a long-time volunteer with the Edmonton Community Foundation. The work as a volunteer is above Dawn’s financial commitment to the community in setting up the Dawn Hawley Donor Advisor Fund at the ECF.
When her busy schedule allows, Dawn enjoys travelling.
